If Windows Vista were a person, it would have an inferiority complex. Not since Windows ME has a Microsoft operating system seen such cool business reception. Indeed, research shows that many enterprises hope to leapfrog Vista altogether. Two recent events should have opened the gates holding back enterprise adoption of Windows Vista: the release of Service Pack 1—typically the point at which businesses begin to deploy a new Windows operating system—and Windows XP's exodus from the OEM channel. However, in a recent survey conducted by Ziff Davis Enterprise Research for eWEEK, nearly three-quarters of respondents indicated that SP1 would have no effect on their Windows adoption plans. | ||

As many commercial "studies" (even those not sponsored by Microsoft) have shown... Vista is being rolled out at a similar pace to XP.
As many of these "studies" have shown, a minority percentage of Vista licenses are being downgraded to XP. There are MANY commercial and business reasons to do this and it doesn't prove anything about Vista IMHO. At least 140 million people can't be that wrong :-) |

Um, ME was not targeted or marketed toward businesses. Why should I continue to read the article when the author obviously has no clue what they're talking about? |

If Windows 7 is nearly only a year away--and since Microsoft totally dropped the ball on Vista marketing ($500M??? Where the heck did it go???)--I can see why many businesses would simply skip Vista at this point. I talked to many in my industry that are planning Office 2007 upgrades on XP for next year, and many are avoiding Vista. Whether Windows 7 is largely the same or entirely different, it really doesn't matter--since they're upgrading from XP, it will require work on their part.

| #4: At the time that ME came out, there were a ton of Win9x clients in the workplace. Not everyone had enough hardware to run W2K Pro. So, while you are correct in that MS didn't heavily market ME to businesses, the article is also correct in that businesses avoided ME when they were likely happy enough with Win9x. |

Windows Vista was available to business customers on November 8, 2006 and was available to the public on January 30, 2007. If Gartner’s prediction is correct, then Windows Vista Business will be installed on 13% of all PCs worldwide at the end of 2008. This means that the adoption rate of Vista will be a little faster than that for XP following its release. The same applies to the consumer versions." |
