Yeah except when you throw and doctype that it doesn't understand.
Put this as the doctype for your web documents and watch what mac ie does: <!DOCTYPE html PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD XHTML 1.0 Strict//EN" "http://www.w3.org/TR/xhtml1/DTD/xhtml1-strict.dtd"> It totally barfs. Very annoying. |

I can agree on the feature front, but not necessarily on the performance front. Microsoft needs to SERIOUSLY improve the page load performance of MSIE/Mac. Don't get me wrong. On a fast Mac, like a new LCD iMac G4 @ 800Mhz, browsing is FAST! It's just not as fast as the Windows platform. I think part of this is because so much of MSIE is loaded along with the OS on Windows machines. Maybe... |

That's not the case, TL. Users have proven this time and again to Netscape/Mozilla users that tried to claim that IE's speed came from the loading of components with the OS. Load IE on unintegrated Windows NT or 9x platforms, and you will see similar performance. The speed comes from the app, not it's integration with the OS. Also, some Mac users running virtual PC have seen better page load performance from emulated Windows/IE sessions versus the Mac browser, especially on Apple's iTools site. I still contend that portions of MSIE are integrated into the operating system and are loaded at startup.
I will conceed that I am not sure if this assists performance. TL |
