Analysts: Vista's bad rep will hurt adoption | |

Analysts at Sanford C. Bernstein & Co. today issued the results of a second annual survey on corporate attitudes toward Microsoft's Windows Vista. Bottom line: Based on the findings, the Bernstein analysts are dropping their estimate for Microsoft's earnings in the 2009 fiscal year from $2.20 per share to $2.17 per share. (Microsoft's preliminary guidance for the fiscal year, which starts next month, was $2.13 to $2.19.)

That has to be among them more cowardly estimates I have ever read.
He adjusts "boosted"guidance, which is above estimates (e.g., MS and Vista are estimated to out-perform againt earlier guidance), downward 49/700th's (about 49 million dollars). All while he says MS has to communicate better with IT managers - while he has apparently mssed the new Tech Centers launched in support of those same managers. http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/aa904820.aspx Cowardly. Once again, this "analyst" surmises estimates of Vista deployment without being cognizant of the typical contractual agreetments between businesses and this software vendor. To wit: most if not all large businesses that use Microsoft software have SA contracts with them. This means that it doesn't make any difference what OS the business uses of Microsoft's, Microsoft gets paid. SMB business has similar contractual agreetments with Microsoft that do much the same thing. IT "journalists" continue to be hopelessly oblivious to these agreements and their implications.
Meanwhile, tens of millions more computer buyers each month are experiencing Vista. Much like the groundswells in the past, employees that use Vista and that includes those that have not used anything else will go to work and have to use XP. They will "force" their employers to make the switch. So, despite these dire "prognostications", Vista will prevail as the universally used OS across the planet. Meanwhile, the sales and incomes of the likes of Red Hat and Novell remain below mouse turd levels in comparison to the bonaza of sales and income to Microsoft and the tens of thousands of ISVs and hardware vendors that in some way have a relationship with Microsoft and its products. |
