It's no secret that Google, Inc. is trying to undermine Microsoft Corp.'s software business at every turn. Although Google continues to be non-chalant about it, the company's "software as a service" approach to competing with Microsoft's established "software on your PC approach" is popular in many circles, but still doesn't seem to be affecting Microsoft's revenue stream. | ||

| If only running Exchange was expensive. Its an interesting service but at some point the Google bubble's gonna pop. Frankly pulling e-mail in house is so insanely cheap the concept of pushing it free to a service provider seems like a waste. If anything there are plenty of other useful and more cost-saving measures to take. |

| And one can get Outlook 2003 free of cost by ordering the SBS 2003 R2 CD. It contains the full version of Outlook. |

Disclaimer: in spite of the fact that it seems very popular nowadays I am totally against the idea to have personal/corporate information stored somewhere "in the cloud" so we use Exchange and we host it in our office.
As far as TCO goes I do no know what MS charges for 1000 Exchange seats or what Google charges for its apps; I think that if you are shopping for 1000 software licenses your buying experience, as well as prices, is very different than if you go shopping for 10/20 licenses and this is something true no matter what you buy: software, paper, pencils, desks, monitors etc..
