An economist testifying for Microsoft Corp. in its antitrust case conceded on Wednesday that all the research he's published on the software industry since 1998 has been at least partly funded by the software giant. University of Chicago economics professor Kevin Murphy, in his second day of testimony, said strong sanctions sought by nine states are unwarranted as there is no proof Microsoft's illegal acts actually stopped competitors from succeeding. | ||

As opposed to doing free research?
How is one supposed to conduct research without funds? Companies fund research all the time, and research firms are real big on maintaining their objectivity. Simply because a company paid a research firm does not mean the firm will slant their findings to the payer. If that were true, then all the medicine we use would probably be killing us or worse. |
