I guess you didn't read the article then because it contains more than that. While I have not always agreed with Lketchum at least he has actually extensively used the products that he writes about. And the critics aren't retards but the majority of the time they seem to have very little experience with the product and are rehashing what others have said instead of investigating for themselves. Lloyd's missive is informative. Latch, some rehashing took place, but not much. Don't we all repeat our beliefs over and over again to anyone that will listen? Have a few beers and tell me that you don't do so with a little truth juice in you.

| So basically what I get out of this and other diatribes is that if you are a technically skilled system integrator who is obsessive compulsive about performance and knows all the ins and outs of every low level system and registry tweak, Vista can be made to run well. However, if you are an average Joe, or a technically competent technology writer but who lacks the low level knowledge of the necessary bits to twiddle, and simply run Vista as it ships, then you are out of luck, and should have hired Libertech to build your system, because no one does it better than them, so they tell us. |

That is not what I got out of it at all. He is saying that many of the Vista issues can be traced back to driver issues. my own experience has led me to believe the same thing. Also unlike a custom built system many off the shelf systems come with so much junk loaded on it that you can't tell whether it s the system or other software loaded that is causing the issue. The systems I have built and configured to run Vista never need the low level tweaking you are describing and they have always run great. It just seems that many of the critics are looking issues and when one occurs they don't pause and try and figure out what is actually causing the problem. Instead it is just that MS and Vista is crap. What is amusing is this is exactly the same thing that happened when XP was released. People have very short term memories it seems. XP had performance issues, driver issues, etc when it was released. So did OS X. So does every major OS and software release. If you want to be an early adopter you are basically going to be a paying beta tester. Vista can be made to run well but if you don't want the headaches then stick with the tried and true.
