I read somewhere (not going to look for the link) that there will be a "second wave" of Extras this year. A quote from Homer comes to mind: "They put us on the 'Waiting to Exhale' waiting list, but they said 'don't hold your breath.'"
On the other hand, TL's post also makes me wonder--what would people want to see, specifically? I've been waiting to hear more on that "GarageBand"-like program, but after only a couple mentions of it, I haven't heard another word. Ultimate Extras probably wouldn't be the way to deliver that, though. Even if they did, I think it would be nearly impossible to prevent it from being installed on other versions of Vista (or even XP, probably). Making it "difficult" might be enough, though.... |

| #10: I was reading a review of Vista capable laptops from various vendors, by PC Mag or PC World, or some similar mag, and what was most interesting was that the best Vista laptop they tested was a MacBook Pro. Talk about irony. It really is true that you get what you pay for. |

Its your choice to spend a lot more money if you want.

Blu has the right idea. Programs of substance. A garage band like program. A free copy of Money. That sort of thing.
Something of real value. Screensavers, screens, and other crap like that listed are as insulting as Microsoft offering a no-cost-to-them cheapie Live Arcade game to XBL subscribers who had to deal with all the issues during the holidays. TL |

Keeping in mind that Xbox Live costs us $50 a year, and Live was having problems for a week. Essentially costing us 95 cents. So, MS could refund everyone 95 cents, or offer a free arcade title, or give points to everyone in their account. I lost 95 cents, but I might get a free arcade title. I am happy with that.
However, there are millions of Xbox 1 owners out there that are "gold" subscribers per se, and they had issues, but THEY cannot download any arcade titles on the old Xbox obviously...nor can they be given points. So I don't know what MS could do to make it right. |

| Why demand stuff we can get elsewhere like premium dreamScene videos (Stardock), arcade or puzzle games (surely there's no lack of arcade or puzzle games on WIndows), Windows Media Player 11 skins or visualizations, IE addons. On the contrary, DVD Maker menu themes, Photo Gallery slideshow themes, nice transitions and effects for Movie Maker would be nice. But full fledged apps of substantial value (neat and slick implmentation of multiple desktops, free MSN Games (which are usually paid), more Windows Live Desktop apps would be nicer. |

The actual COST has nothing to do with it. Some look at it as "It's a game, get over it". I could not disagree more. We pay for a service, and Microsoft failed to deliver that service. I am like thousands or millions of others that work very hard all year, and have very little time for relaxation and gaming. When that one time a year comes around where we have our vacations, time off with the kids, etc... and we want to just sit down and enjoy ourselves with some gaming for change, we expect it to be there. Microsoft took that away from us this year. They ruined the ENTIRE holiday period with their short-sightedness, and gratuitus "We're Sorry's" and a free POS game that doesn't affect them one bit does not make up for it. TL |

#23 Well, Apple is charging 400$ for 1TB drivers and Newegg is charging as little as 259$.
