Opera: Acid or no, its Microsoft antitrust complaint goes forward | |

Now that Microsoft has passed the Acid2 Browser test, is Opera Software satisfied? If dropping its antitrust complaint filed last week with the European Commission is the measure, the answer is no. I asked Opera whether Microsoft’s announcement on December 19 that an internal Internet Explorer 8 build has passed the Acid2 test meant a change in its complaint. Opera asked the European courts to require Microsoft to change its practice of bundling IE with Windows, as well as to compel Microsoft to make IE comply with accepted Web standards. An Opera spokesman delivered the company’s response: | ||

didn't a bunch of companies sue micosoft for the same reason like a year ago, before the court ordered them to make changes to more easily switch to a different browser?
im sorry but even linux and osx comes with a browser... so why cant windows come with one? this is harrasment on operas side i dont get why their being idiots just because firefox and ie have destroyed operas share isn't microsofts fault... hell firefox came after opera and did much better... that goes to show its operas business practices that are making it fail, not the fact microsoft is bundling |

last i knew you had to BUY opera.
Why would it succeed when you have to buy it? if its free now it's got a negative feel to it then because you had to buy it in the past. |

opera: we are gonna sue because 1) ie needs to comply with standards
msft: ie8 already complies. Slap Slap to yo face. opera: ouch, our face stings now. well, we've shown all our cards, so its too late. we have no where to run but to the courtroom or to the bank (bankrupt). now lets proceed to lay off employees (mark my words on that one) and wither to nothing for the next 18months as the case winds its way through the court system. |

| I don't agree with their bundling crap argument but the damage done by IE's lack of standards to other browsers including Opera and web developers in general cannot be undone all of a sudden. Again, if you ask "what damage" then you either are not a web developer or u were really living under a rock. It was really nice that Firefox become successful against MS when others have failed. But I guess now Opera have nothing to argue in court. They should've sued MS around 2002/3/4. |

| You can't stop MS from bundling IE with Windows but Opera can can get their product included on new PCs. Just pony up some dough to Dell or HP or Gateway - they'd be glad to add Opera to their desktops (for a price). |

Opera, another useless nat, attempting to do in the courtroom what they have failed to do in the marketplace - create a product anyone wants.
Meanwhile, their tiresome little lawsuit will go to the "competition" committee of the EU (the "country" still without a constitution) and the EU - in about five years - will rule that Microsoft will have to make a version of their OS that excludes IE. The only problem with this scenario is they already have a OS without MP. The problem - no one buys it! No one will buy the OS without IE and it will be a hell of waste of time and money for all concerned. And, then there will be still another useless nat . . . An on and on it goes . . . |
