It is interesting that MS is offering news and even screenshots about Centro while they are completely MIA about Cougar (SBS 2008).

#5, Ditto that - certainly better than a company [Apple] stuffing every type of customer into the same box... or worse.... ignoring 95% of them and their unique requirements.
That said, what I think TL's context likely was is that, it is nuts trying to keep up with all that from a technologist's perspective - which is true to some extent - there are a dizzying array of options for all of us - but I assess that within the market(s) we each serve and how... that there is enough segmentation, associated products and support, that sufficient tools and opportunities exist to allow partners to compete and succeed [sorta accounts for how MS has 90+ percent of the client market and why it is gaining so well among servers and certainly, why it has the only real platform (at least across as many market segments and their diversity)]. Enterprise, and pro/consumer "services" are there, too and more emerge each day - and ues, "Outlook Anywhere" and collaboration via WSS, etc... do count as "services" in this context. |

One of the most common question I hear from people is why Apple does not sell the OS as a stand alone product? Being a MS user I see the other side of the issue though: backward compatibility is an issue that severely limit what MS is able to push on the market; if half of what is incubated by the R&D department would make on the production line the Apple OS would look like the operating system used by Fred Flinston and the MS OS the one used by George Jetson. |

| I was at a TS2 event just over a week ago. I got out of it that there's lots of new iterations of several communication and server products that are designed to fit all business sizes of 50 persons and up. MS is trying to meet all needs. I'll wait to see how it plays out in the real world. |

| yeah cause having choice sucks. If you are in IT and can't look at 8 products and decide what is best for the company your work for than you need another line of work. My guess is MS will/has a fancy website that shows all the features in a comparison chart just like they do with Office. |
