Microsoft: 'Halo' first-week sales hit $300 million | |

Microsoft said on Thursday that its "Halo 3" video game racked up worldwide sales of $300 million in its first week, making it one of the year's best sellers and helping to nearly triple sales of its Xbox 360 console. The news builds on Microsoft's previous announcement that the final chapter in its series of alien-battling shooting games did $170 million in sales in the first 24 hours after its September 25 debut. | ||

Watch the press... The Halo franchise has done incredibly well... too well for the press and "purists" There will be stories about how people don't like it, or that multiplayer is nothing new or special - all ignoring the facts and how "Live" is so different, more advanced and responsible for making Halo what Halo is to so many people - where and how it unified multiplayer in ways that no other platform or game ever has.
The detractors will do it no matter what the facts are... they'll snipe away for the sake of it. They can't stand that Microsoft is a success - insisting that they didn't earn it - that really hard work and effort produced that success will be ignored <again>. And Bungie.... well, well... and tsk tsk... They're withdrawing and pulling back - more creative freedom, I suppose (but hey, they'll still want a line on dad's money). Some days our industry just needs a great big smack in the nose. Just a nice stiff left jab would do... Don't believe it? Try your own scale - however modest... bust your backside and succeed... then watch people line up to see what they can get, or to snipe away at you - hoping that you'll fail. It's not universal by any means, but it happens to everyone at least a little and it is never easy to deal with. I am sure a great many Awin visitors have seen it. For MS they see a lot more of it. It's ugly stuff. |
