IIS Gains in Monthly Netcraft Survey | |

Microsoft Corp.'s IIS Web server gained almost 2 million sites in March, taking market share from the open-source Apache and the iPlanet Web servers, according to Netcraft. Microsoft had hovered at a 28 percent to 29 percent share of the market for months, while Apache enjoyed about double that share. The March shakeup pushes Microsoft share all the way to 34 percent and drops Apache to around 54 percent. iPlanet, meanwhile, slipped below the psychological threshold of 1 million sites in March -- down to less than 890,000 from about 1.1 million the previous month. Apache accounts for about 20.5 million sites, while IIS has nearly 13 million sites. | ||

Well, again, I think Netcraft is full of crap and their collection methods are questionable, but if this has any shread of truth, then "DAMN STRAIGHT!"
People are gearing up for .NET, and they realize IIS hasn't had an vulnerability in over a year now and even when it does, the patches are out quickly -- way before any exploit ever shows up (Code Red was out 2 months after a patch had been released). The benefits IIS offers over plain-vanilla Apache are obvious and I think people are seeing that. They're also seeing the horrible performance problems Linux 2.4 is having and they haven't seen any attempts to fix it by the "major" Linux vendors. 2.5 is a distant dream and everything else in between is bubble-gum-in-the-leak-hole. |

| #2, #3, by way of comparison, when a story that is unfavorable to MS comes up and appears in multiple places, AWin posts most/all of those as well. |
