#1, Probably so. There is just so much promise in all of this - the HD digital media, I mean.
It is so frustrating, as a builder, knowing what is possible and having it all take so long - not for technical reasons, but in part, due to regulation and in other areas due to so much fragmentation. So many carriers, providers, and equipment manufacturers are scared to death of the combination of technically perfect media and mass, high speed distribution means [ultra high-speed Internet, etc...].
We've all made such a mess of it - all of it landing on the heads of people willing to pay for access to content. As easy as it all is to steal, and then distribute for profit, I don't think we're going to see good solutions any time soon. I'm too frustrated with it all to post ideas on how to fix it... such a dang shame that we seem to be stuck in no better a position than we were in Nov. 2004. Stuck in a low res, low speed, high drag state. It is such a bummer.
MS will shelve this as they pursue IPTV - which will also be delayed.
In part, we can thank the "Good enough is good enough" block that insists that DVD is good enough; 128 bit music is good enough... just add your own filler.... Well, dang it, none of it is good enough - when we get up to "super normal vision" at 20/-70, then perhaps things will look as good as would be practical. Until then, wattered down, washed out and flat looking and sounding content just isn't going to cut it.
