5 reasons not to trust Microsoft near Firefox | |

Microsoft has never made much secret of the fact that keeping rival browsers down is a key part of its business plan. Way back in 1996, Steve Ballmer (then still only the deputy CEO) cheerfully proclaimed: "Every minute of every day, we'll ask every Microsoft employee to ask themselves, 'Have I done anything to increase our share of the Internet browser market?' That's the business we're in; driving up our share is incredibly, incredibly important to us." When it suits, of course, Microsoft likes to look like it's playing nice. Hence the jaunty tone of a recent post on the official Windows Vista blog, announcing that users of Firefox -- the biggest threat to Microsoft's browser share since, well, a decade ago -- are now going to be fully allowed into the Windows Media world. | ||

Microsoft doesn't really care about the browser market share anymore. What they care about is the services that people pay for (whether through ad revenue or customer-paid), what format the media is in.
As long as they are running the back-end of things, they are fat and happy, and they know that browser independence isn't going to cause people to switch platforms (which is what they were originally scared of with Netscape). |

Geez, I didn't realize I've been missing out on media content for the past several years by not using IE. You mean the web has more than text and still pictures? #3: Take down your false commercials Steve I actually watched every one of those Mac and PC commericals at lunch the other day-- they are hilarious! |

NotParker: The "tool" must be working. Announced yesterday afternoon: Google earned $1 billion, or $3.18 per share, up from $592 million, or $1.95 per share, in the corresponding quarter a year ago.

| #7 It seems so. Google is an advertising company. The whole purpose of all of its parts is to sell ads. Thats why I always click on Google ads for companies I dislike. It costs them money. |

Microsoft has always been about the money. Their only goal is to earn a lot of it, and if that means pushing third party browsers away from their platform, they'll do it. And that with any means they can without getting pepper for it.
I use Firefox, and have for a long time, and it's faster, has less bugs, and can show all the same media as IE. The only thing that irritates me is when web programmers use IE specific code on the sites they make. That is the same as saying that they want Microsoft to have monopoly of the internet. | Microsoft is a very different company than it was in 1996. You might not believe it, but the DOJ trial and settlement had a huge impact on the way they do business. Case in point, look at the various Windows Live services. Do any of them come bundled with Windows Vista? Nope. Windows Messenger is gone, and all there is is a download link for WL Messenger. |

| Didn't you guys know that Microsoft is actually subsidising Firefox for not having there wide open securtiy holes fix so that their browser stands out a little brighter? I thought this was common knowledge. |
