Firefox 2 and 1.5 security updates released | |

Mozilla on Monday released security updates for Firefox 2 and Firefox 1.5. Security updates for Firefox 1.5 will be available only until April 24, 2007, when Mozilla will stop supporting the earlier version. Mozilla is encouraging current 1.5 users to upgrade to 2.0 soon. Current users of Firefox 2.0 and 1.5 will receive an automatic update notification and will need to reload the browser for the changes to take effect. Changes in this update patch a flaw in the FTP protocol used by Firefox. | ||

That certainly was a painless update.
It updated, restarted FF automatically, and returned me back to where I was with all tabs open right where I left off. No restarts, no nothing. Gotta give em' credit on that. |

#1: You mean you didn't have to authenticate to prove (once again) that you aren't an evil pirate? And, after updating, you didn't have to reboot? Clearly you're doing something wrong.

All software from MS is a sieve. Especially the stuff that is supposed to protect users.

| #4: LOLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLL MS' supposed defense software bends your system over for anyone. Nice. And by 'nice', I mean 'typical'. But don't worry, there will no doubt be a patch out sometime whever MS gets around to it. In the meantime, they recommend you turn your computer off, or only use files, email, webpages from trusted sources. Good advice, that. |

These things happen unfortunately. But not anywhere in the numbers like OS X or Firefox. Firefox is still a sieve. As is OS X. |

#10: Could you be more specific as to which bug you're talking about? There are so many MS flaws on that page that I can't find ms07-010. I see 008, 009 and 016, but not this mythical 010 of yours. Maybe 010 was a typo that you didn't correct in one of your many, many edits?

On another note, (Latch) why would one need to verify the free Firefox browser? Last I heard it wasn't being pirated. |

Haven't you MS apologists been telling us for years that IE is also "free". In which case, ask yourself your own question. Why would one need to verify it if it's "free" and not being pirated? |

#11 The original PC World article had the link. A brighter person would have noticed the ITCanada article referenced the large batch of Firefox vulnerabilities from February, not the update from March. I for sure am not an MS apologist. Secondly, I use FF (not IE). And finally, how is IE free? I have to buy Windows to use it. I am paying for IE in the price of Windows. You have the wrong person, because at no time did I ever say IE is free. However, it was/is free for Mac. But that still doesn't address my questions. If one has to PAY for Windows XP/Vista/IE and verify it's genuine to prevent piracy, how does that make it comparable to a free product (Firefox), which isn't being pirated? Do tell. |
