Microsoft quietly patches Windows Live OneCare to fix Outlook problems | |

Microsoft is not going to patch the latest version of its Windows Live OneCare service on March 13 to remedy Outlook compatibility issues, as a number of news and blog sites are reporting. The reason? Microsoft already issued the required OneCare patch with no fanfare on March 11. As noted by various Microsoft watchers, the OneCare-Outlook problems are not new. A number of customers have been reporting "OneCare ate my e-mail" problems since late January. | ||

| Here's a patch that works. Uninstall OneCare. Install Avira AntiVir. |

How sinister!
They "quietly" did it. You mean with the quiet auto-update feature? Those evil evil engineers! I know I would strongly prefer a detailed account of every single thing that changes nightly in my virus prog. I want to know, down to the exact syntax changes of the virus definitions. Oh c'mon! I've got a perpetual beta license, and I've had no problems in the ?year and a half? of using the product. Yes, thats a year and a half of using BETA. Truth is... I, personally, need no virus solution (snake oil, if you have half a clue about what you're doing at a keyboard)... regardless of brand. |

To suggest that WLOC was updated, "quietly" connotes many bad things and its misleading.
To WLOC users, the udpate(s) are not "Quiet" or "Obtrusive" - they are what they are, "Updates" and they appear clearly in the WLOC user interface and are obtained and applied easily. WLOC has been updated many times in this manner - so the latest update is just one of many updates that have been applied. |
