If you live in the States and have been keeping up with the TV advertising war started by Apple, you, too, must be wondering when Microsoft is going to respond? As it turns out, they have, to some degree, with their "Wow" ad campaign. Unfortunately, it’s lacking in any real substance and fails to get Windows users to see the advantages of switching. Well done, sure. Even inspiring in many ways, but they fail to define their point at the end of the clip. | ||

I love the spoofed Apple commercials. The one where PC asks Mac, "Are you high?" - I almost fell out laughing...

For MS to respond to those MAC ads would validate Apple Inc as a competitor in the PC industry. Right now Apple is an annoying insect.
Where MS should attack is on the Zune vs iPod front. |

The question never asked by the, "I love everything Steve J.O.B.s does," media is why aren't the Mac ads working?
Inquiring minds want to know the unknowable . . . OH! Wait! It is in their quarterly reports. |

| I think the article is pretty spot-on. They don't have to respond in kind, but they need to get their message out there. I hear that they're spending what, $500M on the marketing compaign? Where the heck is that money going? I've seen ONE direct Vista commercial. Granted, I'm not a huge TV watcher, but I've seen countless Mac ads. Besides that, the author is right--the ads don't sell Vista at all. At least, knowing what I know about Vista, I think the ads don't do justice to the case for Vista. |

#6: I realize I am annoying in real life but what in my post bothers you or is inaccurate? I'm pretty much agreeing with you that MS should ignore apple on the PC front - they are a non-factor. The music player front is where they should attack Apple.

#7, Hardly annoying at all... in this case, dead on - it would be very foolish for Microsoft to acknowledge Apple's ads. It would legitimize them. While I can sympathize with Bill Gates' recent expressions of frustration about truth in advertising and the campaign Apple has been conducting, I do not agree that it is a good idea to counter them in any way.
There is an abundant amount of factual and truthful information out here - take Vista security, for example, http://rjohnson.uninformed.org/toorcon8/rjohnson%20-%20Windows%20Vista%20Exploitation%20Countermeasures.ppt take a good look at slide number 41. Rich Johnson does a great job of getting into the detail and truth about Vista's security contermeasures. Do also note, that Apple's OS X does not have a single one of them and that on whole, Windows Vista has far more and they are far more capable of working together, than any commericialized Unices, or Linuces. Then think for a moment on how Windows and eventually Windows Vista are/will be so dominate - it is because the truth is out here and opposite it that truth there are people who are learned that are responsible for purchasing decisions. These same people have and will continue to choose Windows and many other Microsoft software products - for the reasons depicted at the slide deck prepared by Mr. Richard Johnson - as above. ...and Vista has nothing new and is just a warmed over version of XP... or so says CNET Editors.... Trust me... business decision makers listen to their CIO's, CTO's and IT/MIS professionals - they may read CNET, ZDNET and others, but they decide based upon what professionals that have to eat and live with their recommendations have to say. Bill Gates, being human, is entitled to his anger and most of the time, he keeps it in check - he knows the truth and I think he trusts that a lot of others do, too. |

| Microsoft OS ads are seen by millions and millions of people everyday. Every morning when the 'Information worker' boots up his/her computer and the Windows logo flashes in front of his/her face. (And presumably each of the multitude of times they reboot throughout the day...) |
