After lots of wavering, Microsoft has finally made the due date for Windows Vista Service Pack 1 (SP1) official: The update will ship in the latter half of 2007. (Microsoft didn't issue a press release with that pronouncement. Instead, it notified its Technology Adoption Partner testers of it via an e-mail regarding the imminent start of the Vista SP1 testing program.) | ||

The impression that I get is that the current version is still beta and code the SP1 is the real release code.
The current version has a "rushed" feel to it. |

| #1, Ya know... there are parts of it that sure do, or at least they feel a little less than complete - e.g., perhaps they are bug free enough, but not quite what Microsoft wanted them to be - like the WMC and IE 7, for example. |

Not that MS is likely to address many of those kinds of things in a SP, particularly one with practically an instant turnaround like this one (this isn't Apple we're talking about, which routinely fixes bugs AND adds/changes features in its interim updates)). It'll probably overwhelmingly just be bug fixes this time, and Vienna will have the noticeable changes.

#3, True enough and agreed - all things aside, Vista is the best OS MS has ever done, and the best OS overall - regardless of manufacturer.
Also, I did hear/read that substantive changes - akin to the Roll-ups we saw for MCE 2005, would be shipped for applicable versions of Vista ahead of Vienna. Have you heard anything on this? Thanks |

#7 - I think Vista does have EFI support.
Also, you should look into PowerShell. |
