'make everyday tasks easier'???
Every time I want to click refresh or the home page icon, I instinctively mouse over to the upper left corner of the screen, only to find that I have to mouse all the way over to the other side of screen. Everything is scattered haphazardly all over the place. There's no rhyme or reason. |

Just because it is not what you are used to does not mean it is scattered haphazerdly.
The stop and refresh buttons are right next to the address bar (heck, they used to be one button, thank God they fixed that), and you have your command buttons (things that used to be in menus) on the right hand side. Hardly haphazard. |

| Hrm. It doesn't appear to want to honor my proxy settings. The proxy settings are pushed out via a GPO here. Even logging in as admin, and setting the proxy manually... IE 7 doesn't use the proxy. How annoying. And the "http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?LinkId=74005" startup site appears to be slashdotted/dugg whatever you want to call it these days, and that sometimes causes IE 7 to hang/crash if you wait long enough. |

As someone who was on the UI team for IE 5... I am SO dissapointed with the direction IE 7 went. I like the tabbed experience, but the layout of the buttons are just plain frustrating. And worse, from what I can percieve I can't lay them out the way I want. So dissapointing...
Loaded up Avant after 15 minutes of trying IE 7, I'll play more with it though. Whether it be "haphazard" or not to you... Is it intuitive? They broke every UI standard for the experience since Mosaic. Trying to be different or making something innovative for it's own sake is just kinda sad. I have no problem with people that say they like IE7 - that's cool - but I do have a problem when the only reason is that it's from Microsoft and it's newer. Nevermind that the interface is unintuitive, nevermind the seemingly randomness of the layout. And that's just the thing - it's not intuitive at all - I spend more time mousing around in IE7 than before - the complete lack of customization is another deal breaker for me. I'm sorry, but I just can't sit here and tell you that it's better just because it's from Microsoft.
Two things I like about IE7 - 1) It's fast and 2) it's vastly more secure (in theory) |

Ok, installed and removed. Was not a fun day.
After installation, found out that RoboType (Macro Program) and the Macro Keys on my Logitech G15 keyboard no longer worked in IE. IE7 also took out Yahoo Music Engine. Will not launch. Also took out my Creative XFi Elite Pro drivers somehow. Everything sounded like it was coming out of a Pepsi Can. Uninstall didn't fix. Had to go to a restore point (thank goodness I created one). Had to reinstall YME. Had to reinstall XFi drivers. 6 hours later I was back where I started. TL |

Oh, and I think the interface SUCKS!

Lol @ "tech" Larry. 15 months or so Microsoft gave you to test the application for personal and business use and only now you seem to have gotten around to it? Wow, if I were among those who are served by your IT prowess, I'd feel very safe indeed.
I just installed RTW of IE 7. No problems here. |

#9 Careful there.... TL is a business owner, not a tech and represents an example of why all of us have jobs in this field. If anything, his case represents how far software has to go.
Like a lot fo business owners, he likely HAS TO keep a personal hand on about 100 areas a day - including keeping IT/MIS costs down so he can a) stay in business and b) retain all of his people. The fact that he self recovered is pretty impressive. IE 7 needs to see all running processes and installed applications and manage their integration, or at a minimum, it needs to advise the user before it tanks a system. I realize this is no small task at all, but given Microsoft's resources and position of leadership, I expect this is a goal they either do, or should have. BTW, a majority of Americans are employed in companies with 25 or fewer people - dedicated IT staff is very rare and Windows is accessible enough that most are equipped with many systems and a wide variety of software. TL is also right about it sucking that IE's UI is so rigid and closed to all but very modest alterations by the user. This I hope will change. As I encourage my folks when they first start, please remember, users of PC - especially guys like TL that sign the FRONT SIDES of the checks, are why we have both the work we do, and the responsibility to do our best to ensure they are able to grow - they are after all, the customer - as if common courtesy, good form, and simple respect were not enough, and classes you may have missed. Ok, so it's MY fault that I didn't want to become a Microsoft Test Pilot? What the HELL kind of thinking is that?
Last time I checked, I don't get a salary from Microsoft so I ain't obligated to test squat. Your posts are usually pretty good, but this one is downright silly. TL |

Well, I don't _own_ a business, but I take care of a pretty big one. However, testing is still not my department (not that I don't do it some times). In the case of IE7, I am stricktly a user.
The install severely affected my productivity and I had to uninstall it. It's really that simple Bob. TL |
