Symantec: MS Making Vista Insecure | |

Microsoft's partners are continuing to cry foul over the decision to lock down the Windows Vista kernel with a feature called PatchGuard, claiming an announcement about sharing security APIs is simply a "red herring" to fool the press. The contentious issue revolves around the ability of security vendors to write applications that essentially "patch" the Windows kernel to protect it from viruses and other malware. With PatchGuard, Vista attempts to do this on its own, in turn thwarting both protectors and attackers. While partners such as Symantec, McAfee and Sunbelt Software understand the intentions of PatchGuard, they allege that Microsoft is actually making the operating system less secure by locking out third parties. These companies say that patching the kernel is of critical importance to security software, especially when new threats surface. | ||

| The ongoing argument is nonsense. It is akin to Midas muffler and other auto repair firms, decades ago, complaining that auto makers plan to use stainless steel mufflers instead of quick-to-rust carbon steel. |

| Spare me...SomeAntics is trying to dodge the fact that their AV has gone down hill over the past few years - it's a resource pig, tends to cause more conflicts with other software, and is bloatware. |

#1, and the rest are all dead on - and bobsireno, accidental deaths from carbon-monoxide poisoning went down by 90% - but Midas apparently thought that was a bad thing...?

On the other hand...Partition Magic is a superb program.
Used it to repartition my hard disk to run Vista in another partition. I'll bet they bought the code from someone else. |

TOTALLY OFF THIS TOPIC,
But why hasn't a post/thread been started reference the <=1% of Apple video iPods being infected with a virus that attacks Windows based computers? It is significant that less has been shared about this subject, or for what appears to be a compromise in the integrity of the systems loading firmware to effected iPods. |

Its amazing how Symantec (and Sony) have really hit the general net population's shite list lately?
Does Wired still have their Wired/Tired/Fired word lists? If so, Symantec must be on there somewhere. Guess where. |
