Disable automatic install of IE 7 | |

Many administrators are going to be taken by surprise when they find out that IE 7 is going to be installed automatically via Windows Update. There are considerable changes that could cause many headaches. Most administrators would prefer to decide when IE 7 is deployed on their network. This is why microsoft has released the IE 7 blocking tool. It can be downloaded from here at Microsoft's website. At source there is also a nice utility written by IntelliAdmin which helps you to deploy the necessary registry keys remotely. | ||

Your validation may not have succeeded due to the following Internet connection issue.
The Windows Genuine Advantage Tool requires Internet access and is unable to communicate with the Microsoft validation servers. So my already registered, activated, and validated computer/OS must revalidate to obtain a tool to prevent auto update (which does not require validation) of a particular componant. Silly MS. Ok, still I wonder why I my Internet connection is good enough to post here and not good enough to validate? |

#'s 3 and 4, Yeah, as much as I want WGA to work, I'm very worried that it will hit wall after wall at the expense of the partner and admin.
As a small builder - especially with a new customer, I worry that a WGA error will introduce damages to builder reputations that might be impossible to overcome in the minds of new customers. If for example, one hits the system properties sheet on a Vista system, there is a delay as an out-bound WGA validation check is run each time - try it, go to "Computer" and right-click it and select properties. There is a delay as a WGA check is run EACH TIME an operator enters the systems properties sheet. I've done an out-bound capture dozens of times [at the interface] and I am working on an article for a new set of blogs to address this and other areas of concern. We're going to try and show how to manage this - playing by strict rules and using Microsoft's own tools. We want to show as balanced and objetive an approach as possible - we want people to see what is being sent; exactly to what location(s) and servers and attempt to reconstruct how the information might be used. We want to do it all entirely as designed by Microsoft and see if any false-positives are ever reflected. If they are, we intend to reveal that and what actions and results were taken and obtained. We regard this as a zero-tolerence area and we expect Microsoft to do their part and make it PERFECT, or change it [the policy]. We are also adapting tools we have developed to help manage systems - our own "procedures" applications that help admins see what systems are doing - answering basic questions in clear language about, "what is my system doing and what systems is it communicating with?" We intend to offer these for use by all admins and free of any charges - inclusive of source code and database schema files. |

Update: I tried this again - same thing. At the end of the page is a link to resolve problems:
