Microsoft released an interim build of Windows Vista to its usual testers, as well as to100,000 of the participants in its Customer Preview Program, on September 22. Build 5728 was delivered to testers via TechBeta, TechNet, TAP and MSDN, while the 100,000 CPP participants were chosen at random to get even greater diversity in the feed-back, a Microsoft spokesperson told eWEEK. | ||

5728 is very stable and even a little faster than 5600. I upgraded one system from inside Windows Vista 5600 and it took about 40 minutes. All settings, right down to the last URL's I had entered, were carried over.
There is a lot more polish that has been applied - new icons for media sharing, for example, and PNRP really does work. Once can publish one's Internet name very easily and share files amongst public folders quickly. I shared between a test station inside a domain in one named space and a stand alone latop client, quite easily - just by computer name! It was cool. You can enable your Vista test systems' Internet names by doing the following: Open a command prompt by right-clicking it to “Run as administrator” Type NetSH Type p2p Type pnrp Type peer Type set machinename publish=start autopublish=enable You should see “Ok” if it worked. |
