Glass over RDP? Believe it! | |

Taking a much needed break from writing my upcoming book, Hacking Windows Vista, I started upgrading all of my machines to the new Vista build, 5536 (Pre-RC1). After first updating my test box, I decided to go ahead and upgrade my primary desktop as well. That machine has a fast enough processor and a graphics card that supports the new Aero a.k.a. glass interface, unlike my test box. Once the new build was installed, I went exploring to try to find all of the new things that changed. Eventually, it was time to get back to writing (I already a little behind on the next deadline) so installed Microsoft Office and configured Word again with my template from Wiley. | ||

| One thing that Vista includes is brand-new versions of classic games such as Minesweeper and Hearts. Unfortunately, these are DirectX based and refuse to run when I am RDPing from my XP box into my Vista box. Kinda sad that I can't even play Minesweeper over RDP. But maybe when I have Vista on my client box I will be able to. |

| It's true (and this has been known for at least several months--it was in previous builds), and it works surprisingly well. I wouldn't expect to play games through it, though. |

Not sure what use this is, but it's interesting.
As someone who lives and breathes VNC connections all day long (sometimes having 3 open at once, servicing 3 machines), any advances in remote connectivity get my tip of the hat :) TL |
