The final version of Windows Live Messenger has changed quite a bit since the March preview. There's a new look and feel--at least the third major revision since the early betas--and Windows Live Messenger now matches the other Windows Live properties visually. This is a smart move, because these services in the past (when they were branded as MSN) were often attractive but there was little to suggest they were part of a bigger whole. Now, the integration strategy is starting to mesh a bit as these products and services mature. | ||

| WLM is great, when it works properly. The server problems that Microsoft are having is really letting it down at the moment, sometimes I can login, sometimes I can't, sometimes I can yet contacts are not showing up etc, connection errors and more. Really hope this gets sorted out sooner rather than later otherwise I could see myself going to yahoo for my main IM. |

I just wish MSN would ditch their emoticons and adopt Yahoo's. I never thought I'd be one of "those people" (that uses emoticons), but they really do make it easier to get the message across. At least in Yahoo. In MSN, you have ones like a dog, a cat, a black sheep... what the heck?
The other thing that drives me crazy about MSN is that every message takes up at least two lines--one for the ID/handle, and one for the message. In Yahoo, it puts these on the same line, which saves a lot of space and is even easier to read (I think). Why MSN doesn't even give the option of formatting it that way, I have no idea. |

Not a perfect solution, but in WLM, you can uncheck 'show "contact says" before each message' to disable the prepended ID on successive messages. |
