Microsoft POS for .NET is a class library that is part of Microsoft Windows Embedded for Point of Service and the SDK can be used to create Point Of Service applications and Service Objects. The class library provides .NET applications with a simple and consistent interface for communicating with Point of Service (POS) peripheral devices, such as bar code scanners, magnetic card readers, receipt printers, and so on. In addition, POS for .NET includes a set of programming interfaces and base classes for vendors of POS peripheral devices. These interfaces and classes help vendors write software components, or service objects, for their devices. | ||

| I think POS meaning point of sale was in use long before it meant piece of shite. When i see POS the first thing i think of is point of sale. |

POS - Point of Sale, Point of Service, Piece of Sh*t, etc.
This is an acronym that should never be used for anyone, and certainly should never be used for more than one thing in the same company. It is too easy to change the POS meaning to something more derogatory if the actual POS software is crappy in the least. Software companies: Use POS as part of a product or service name at your own risk! |

MS redefining POS in their own terms instead of finding a better name an acronym indicates a level of arrogance that he king-of-the-hill tends to display.
They can call it what they want, POS is point of sale. Period. |
