Windows Media Player 11 Beta has been released this morning by Microsoft. It comes with the subscription based music download service, URGE for $14.95 per month and currently is offered with a 14 day trial. Windows Media Player 11 for Windows XP offers you unmatched choice and flexibility for your digital media. You can easily manage your libraries of digital music, photos, and video on your computer; explore a new world of music through the integrated URGE music service; and connect with mobile devices so you can have your digital media collection wherever you want it. Requires Windows XP. Please Note If you use Windows Media Player to access a favorite online store, some are not available for this beta release. The following stores are available in the Windows Media Player 11 beta release: Audible, FYE, Live365, Movielink, MSN Music, Napster, Passalong, Puretracks, URGE, Wal-Mart, and XM Radio.

So far, so good. Clean install, clean interface.
I like the listings of albums with album art and the tracks in order....and in alpha order and track length with the headers for each section (a's b's c's or lengths...4 minute songs, 3 minute songs, etc It even seems to load faster than WMP10...lots faster than iTunes... |

I'll stick with Yahoo Music for $4.99 a month. Yes, the software sucks but it gets the job done. TL |

| #3..I think that's for the URGE music service. I didn't install that...it gave an option to do so during install, and I chose not to. I don't intend to use it anyway. My understanding is that the beta still works, the 14 day trial is the MTV music store URGE. |

TL...
Check "show updates" on add/remove programs, and it shows up as WMP 11 and WM Format Runtime as uninstallable items. I dl'ed the WMP10 just in case. |

Well they finally made WMP stupid proof, way easier to use and it seems a lot faster. Album browsing is a lot more intuitive with the CD covers. I give this release two thumbs up! Lets hope Vista turns out just as easy and polished.

I like it.
Tested under an XP Virtual PC container. Nice interface. More playing to do though... Doesn't lock up if you drag a large folder of MP3's to the library like V9 and 10 did. BTW... Virtual PC 2004 absolutely screams when run on an AMD 4800 X2 system with 2GB of RAM. It is way beyond useable. It's FAST! TL |

much improved LIBRARY. that alone is worth the upgrade.
Urge = same as itunes, napster, etc Urge + tunebite = GOLD |
