Today while surfing the following MS website came to my attention. It's the Add-ons website from Microsoft for IE7 (Currently in Beta2). I don't know how long this website is already up, but i wanted to share it with you anyway. Browser add-ons can help personalize the way you use the Internet. | #3: It's hard for me to prove it since I don't run IE. However, the non-stop security holes are proof of bugs. And the endless stories of virus & malware infections due to drive-by downloads with IE are at least anecdotal evidence on a grand scale. When I said that nasty things come with IE for free, I didn't mean they're bundled in with IE. You just have to actually use it for an hour or so to get those goodies. |

I run XP Pro at home and run IE 7 beta 2 (previously 6) with maxthon as my primary browser. I have never been infected with a virus or malware. I have a virus scanner loaded and it scans my mail but isn't doing a real time scan. The same goes for a malware scanner. I have a good hardware firewall and have autoupdates turned on.
Proper administration is the key to maintaining any system regardless of whether is Windows, Linux or OS X. I have seen Linux systems so badly configured that they have been compromised. Just the same as I have seen Windows systems so well configured that you would never be able to crack them. I agree that the major problem with Windows systems is the ability to run as admin and the average user should no be but that is no excuse for poor administration on any OS. Hopefully, Vista will fix these problems on the home side where there is not anyone to administer the system. |

kaikara, dont waste your breath. Latch is closed minded and in need of attention (have you noticed he posts alot on a windows site?), and you'll never be able to find any common ground. ...are you on crack Latch?? I have been using using IE7 from Beta 1...now using Beta 2. I don't run any Spyware crap, I don't run any Anti-viruses. I am running as a local user....not has an local admin. I have NEVER caught (with IE7) any viruses or spyware. Any more comment? ...........I thought so. |

| #7: How incredibly egotistical of you. Because something has never happened to you personally, then it must have never happened to anyone??? Is that how it works in your world? So I guess those honeypot studies where an unpatched Windows box was owned in 20 minutes on average were imaginary because your personal computer has never been compromised? |

Actually in your post you stated that with IE you get spyware, viruses, etc. Your assumption means that everyone with IE gets these things. Don't let your hatred for MS blind you to the fact that any system can become compromised if you don't use proper security procedures. Of course a system that is upatched will get owned in 20 minutes. Anyone hooking up any unpatched system to the internet unprotected by a firewall would be nuts regardless of whether it was OS X, Linux or Windows. #6 and #8 I know I won't change his view. Some days I just like to try and bring a more balanced view in to the discussion. Having worked with many different systems over the years I can't believe that anyone can be that closeminded to one system or another. You use what is best for the situation and they all have something to bring to the table. You would think that Latch had been molested by an MS employee at some point to be so upset about them all the time. |
