Microsoft may delay Windows Vista again -- Gartner | |

Microsoft Corp.'s long- awaited release of the upgrade to its flagship Windows operating system will likely be delayed again by at least three months, research group Gartner Inc. said on Tuesday. The research note, released to clients on Monday, said the new Windows Vista operating system is too complex to be able to meet Microsoft's targeted November release for volume licence customers and January launch for retail consumers. | ||

#1 I think they should release it now, charge 129$ for it, and then fix some of it by December, charge another 129$ for that version, and then release a version in the summer of 2007 that finally gets most of it right and charge another 129$ for it.
I mean ... how evil is it of Microsoft to support XP Pro for 10 years! They can't be allowed to get away with that. 18 months tops. I think Google and EU should sue to demand support for XP Pro stops today! Its undermining business confidence in OS X and Linux when those operating systems only get 11 to 18 months of free security/bug fixes without an install of a new version! Apple does that and gets praised for it. If Microsoft were to do that, they'd get roasted for it. Apple does no wrong to most people, while Microsoft does no right. |

| #3 - same rubbish different day. Ever use those operating systems and realise how less buggy the main releases (apart from 10.0) have been compared to most windows launches? No probably not once again. |

actually most non apple zealots would say that osx 10-10.2 were pretty buggy and it wasn't until 10.3 that they started to get it right. From my own experience that is the case - not that great to pay to be a bug tester for apple. But then again apple can't do anything wrong. |

If I was energetic and had nothing to do Byron I could try and count up each individual security fix for OS X on that page (which is only the ones since January) and previous pages. I think its probably something like 1000 individual items for OS X by now. And thst just security problems. |

but guys, apple has made the gaussian blur a little faster with each of those $129 service packs... so who are we to complain?
of course they also update safari each time (yet no one uses it). they also push out a new ichat client (although i had aol instant messenger years ago, so they are really just CHARGING for something you used to get for free directly from aol). |

#5 - I'm no Apple Zealot, having one mac and 4 PC's should pretty much prove that, but I'm not blind to the fact that OS X is actually a very good OS. The ones who keep on bemoaning it here are the zealots who can't see past anything without a Microsoft logo on it and thats just sad.
I had problems with 10.0 no doubt, but after that I never did, right now its the most stable OS around with a very good feature set. Instead of everyone brining Apple's OS into the comments each time a delay to Vista is mentioned, or a feature from Vista is dropped, or when Vista doesn't look anywhere near as sexy as MS first made you all think it would be...try talking about the OS in question! |

I think they were just pointing out that MS isn't the only one that releases buggy initial product, or drops features, or is late getting a product out the door (all which happened with OS X) OS X was as if not more buggy then most initial versions of Windows. Plus you have the fact that Apple was building the software to run on their own hardware you think they could have gotten it right the first time. Point is people look at OS X with rose coloured glasses. If you take a step back you will see the same problems occurred in with vista and OS X. This happens in many large software developments. |
