Samsung Launches the Q1 | |

Yesterday, Samsung launched its Ultra Mobile PC (UMPC), the Q1, in the U.S. Starting May 7, the Q1 will be available for purchase from Best Buy online at www.bestbuy.com/ultramobilepc, and in select Best Buy stores later this summer. The Q1 features a 7-inch, widescreen LCD with touch-screen capability, weighs just 1.7 lbs., and runs Windows XP Tablet PC Edition. Standard battery life is approximately 3.5 hours (depending on usage). A 6-cell battery is available that doubles operating time to 7 hours, and an available battery pack further increases operating time to 9 hours. Maybe not, Byron.
I think this form factor fits in quite nicely between a Pocket PC and a Tablet PC. It's just missing telephone service, which I think is a big mistake. Does anyone want to carry a Smartphone AND a UMPC? Probably not... Laptops are just too damn clunky. |

| Too expensive to become popular. Price of it compared to how low speced the Q1 is makes it look a bad purchase and after using one a few weeks ago, I just don't see a market. |

| I would cary both, but the price on these is WAY too high. Bring it down to $500-$700 then it would be worth it. |

another stellar comment by byron. byron, could you at least attempt to explain your opinion? i wouldnt mind wasting time reading your comment, if it had a shred of a chance of containing original information once in awhile.
re: origami... i like the idea. and the price is right. plus, you're looking at the natural progression toward an xbox portable. |

| Great product, too expensive... but that's how most technology starts out. When it's around $500 with generation 2 or 3, it'll be adopted widely. I'll buy one then, too. |

Calm down, everyone is entitled to an opinion.
512mb memory, low spec processor, low graphic capability, all for the price of a pretty good desktop pc. Crashed a lot (the final version I played with). Had nothing going for it over a tablet PC and no one uses them much either. Also you are not looking at the progression towards an Xbox portable with Origami - thats in the hands of Allard and isn't anything to do with the dire tablet pc shambles. #6 - while I agree thats how most technology starts out, how many more attempts will MS do towards a Tablet based PC (thats what this really is, 2nd gen tablet as far as I'm concerned) before they realise it doesn't work unless its more powerful, I know loads of tech savvy and gadget mad friends, but not one of them is interested in Q1. | #4 - yeah if the price was in the range that was stated to begin with for ultra mobile pc's then you get a better deal no doubt and worth actually starts to come into it, while right now there is no incentive or reason to buy one at its current price and spec. |
