I still remember the day very clearly. It was Monday, October 27, 2003. Several thousand developers--and, let's face it, quite a few garden variety Windows enthusiasts--charged into Hall A at the Los Angeles Convention Center (LACC) like teenage girls at a Justin Timberlake concert, volleying for the best seats. I've been to more Bill Gates keynotes than I can count, and this was the first time I ever saw anyone climb over other people in order to secure a better view. (No offense to Mr. Gates, but he's not exactly a dynamic speaker.) It was PDC 2003 (see my review) and everything was right with my world. | ||

agread good read, but this UAP (sorry if i get this spelling wrong) i submitted a bug report just about this very thing. it will put me off to upgrade to vista.

The UAP is the most annoying and idiotic (feature?) I've ever encountered in any OS (to date). And so far, the releases of Vista from the 4000’s build to the current 5342 build are simply…crap!
Can’t wait to see what MS releases to the public for testing! |

I have been running as non admin since Windows 2000. Other than a couple of little things, I dont really even notice it.
And when compared to the fact that I have absolutely none of the problems the average person complains about, I really dont care if they have UAP or not- for me it already does. For the most part, 3rd party software that refuses to accept the Windows 2000 profile/permissions model is to blame. Microsoft needs to cut the cord on legacy. I know that goes against a long standing rule, but it is the only way to fix this. Everything must be digitaly signed, if it isnt, do NOT allow installation Simply using what is already there more effectivly would solve the spycare problem in a minut. The only thing that is really missing is the fact that traditional applications cant be limited in what they can do to/with the system. ALL applications must understand their reponsibility within the security context of the system- if they dont, then they should be severly restricted in what they can do Hopefully the new Vista 2way firewall works well for the networking side of the problem, but registry and file stuff would still be a problem Are they still doing the isolated registry stuff for applications? At first I tought it was lame, but better partitioning within Windows might be a good start -especially in user mode |

Are they still doing the isolated registry stuff for applications?
Yes, registry access is virtualized along with some other things I can't remember right now. |
