Show of Hands: Who Wants Windows XP on Their Macs? | |

Apple says, due to overwhelming user demand, it is developing software that will allow customers to dual boot Windows XP and Mac OS X on Intel-based Macs. Apple rolled out on Wednesday a public beta version of "Boot Camp," which it plans to make a feature of "Leopard," the next version of the Mac OS, which Apple will show off this August. We're curious, though: Who out there really wants to run Windows on a Mac? Mac users are true believers in the Mac OS; Windows users might like the prettier hardware, but would that be enough of a reason to move to a dual boot setup? We want to hear from Windows users who are interested in moving to Mac hardware. Are you out there? | ||

I plan to buying a Mac Mini to replace an old business machine and install BootCamp and Windows XP on it. The machine may be over priced, but what the hell? The only way to tell if either OS runs great, or sucks, on Apple hardware is to try it. The only drawback appears to be the 2.5" hard drives.
For those who think this is a stupid or crazy move: bite me. |

| I'd say go for it. I got a Mac Mini 8 months ago and liked it so much I got a MacBook Pro when my HP laptop died. My only suggestion would be to bump up the RAM. |

| #1, What of an M based Aopen? Since it's all Intel for a lot less, and the form factor [exterior], is nearly identical, it seems an Aopen MODT system would make more sense for less money - less of course, you want to dual-boot Next and Windows XP/Vista? |

The Mac Mini I ordered was $599 plus tax. I'll tweak it as needed, after it arrives, with appreciative thanks to Todd for his comments here and elsewhere.
I intend to offer an additional service of installing Windows on Intel Macs for local customers that want to try something different but want to also use Windows. Apple will likely offer its OS to PC box users, only after it sees its market share of computer boxes level off, and when it wants to boost its stock price, again. |

XP is running just fine on my new Dell Inspiron E1505... at half the price of the MacBook Pro.
