If there's one company that stands to benefit from the delay of Microsoft's Windows Vista operating system, it's Apple Computer, analysts said.
While Microsoft has been struggling to release its new operating system, Apple has regularly put out updates for its Mac OS. Moreover, Apple is already strong in areas where Microsoft has promised to deliver key improvements with Vista: security, and features such as video and photo editing and search, analysts said.
"Apple is the one clear beneficiary of the flip in Vista," said Gene Munster, an analyst with Piper Jaffray. If shoppers are looking for what Vista has been promising, the decision is easy, he said. Before, "they would have...had to look at a PC against a Mac. Now they only have one choice, at least for this holiday season, and that's the Mac."

Such stupid logic. Mac does not play in the same world as windows(check the market percentage). Because of the delayed people will get XP with the free upgrade to Vista (like I did with 98 to XP from Dell).

Actually, MCE 2005 is the real alternative choice.
Also, I think people are stoked about running XP on Apple hardware, because of a much larger choice of software available for XP.

Oh this makes sense... after all, Mac OS X has only been out for 4 years. A delay of 3 months for Vista will make all the people that have ignored Mac OS X for those 4 years suddenly go "WAIT! I'm getting a Mac!".
Give me a break.

Is that OX X 1,2,3 or 4 you mean over the past four years? against the one version of XP (apart from the excellent media center 2005)

Isn't that 10.1 and 10.2, etc...point releases that are truly more like SP1 and SP2 (whatever the macheads may say)? They aren't really new releases, but fixes and a few new features, not a whole new OS like 95 to 98 to ME to 2k to XP.

People in the tech media makes it seem like all of Apple's upgrades are new operating systems. When MS does an upgrade, they are just fixing holes in their operating system.

Not to mention having to pay $129 for each version.

NotParker, or Neowin Parker, has an excellent point. MCE is a decent OS to use. Tuner cards are lower in price, except ATI's HDTV of course, and run cooler making MCE a good choice for new PCs. Most of my rural area customers are just now considering XP since 98 has finally been made obsolete by malware and lack of MS support. Vista is not a necessity for working folks. They need a computer that runs the software they have always used, MS Office, Quicken, Tax Cut and other similar programs.
No rush for Vista. Let it be right when relased to OEMs.

I see no compelling reason to buy Vista at this time. I'm happy with Windows XP. My issues are not with the OS, it's with having enough time to do everything I want to do on the OS.
I see no compelling reason to buy a Mac. I just bought a Dell E1505, for half what it would cost me to buy a similar spec'ed MacBook Pro.
Apple ought to rename their Mac the iPod Workstation and have it run the iTunes OS. Maybe they'd get some sales that way.

15%! Ha ha ha ha ha ha.
3% tops.
PC Sales of 234.5 million are expected for 2006.
In the last quarter "Apple sold 1,254,000 Macintosh systems"
Thats 5 million a year.
5 / 234.5 = 2.13%.
Its hard to get to 15% "install base" when your sales are only 2.13%.
Admittedly, there sales are growing. They went from 1,236,000 Macintosh units in Q4 2005 to 1,254,000 in Q1 2006 ... but an increase of 18,000 ain't going to get them to 15% install base!

Ha ha ha.

Let's face it, wouldn't you like to have your mom stop calling you with Windows issues?
Odd, my mom never calls me with Windows issues.
They've got two computers. A Celeron 300A I gave them in 2000 with Win2k on it, and a PIII-1.2Ghz with WinXP on it I gave them in 2002.
They have DSL hooked up to a Linksys router, and are happy as clams. All they do is browse the internet, send emails and work on Word documents.
I'm sorry, but while I know you've taken the Mac crack, there is just no compelling reason for anyone to own a Mac. Anybody who points that out get's lashed at by the crack users, but whatever. Thems the facts.
