Another item for the fiendishly clever marketing ideas file: Microsoft is apparently building into Vista a tool that will rate your PC based on how well it runs that operating system's capabilities. According to a cNet report, the "Windows Performance Rating" system evaluates PC components such as the processor, memory, hard drive, and graphics cards to come up with an overall score. Microsoft is still working on the grading system and declined to provide details, other than noting that "the idea behind the Windows Performance Rating is to help average consumers easily understand their Windows Vista PC's overall performance, and to simplify the process of determining whether certain software applications will run smoothly based on their system components." | ||

| You complain about that a lot don't you. Why don't you just get a blocker. I have never seen an ad on this site let alone a pop up. |

I have not gotten any pop-ups on here.
kaikara, most blockers do not work. Pop-ups can come thru no matter if you have the blocker enabled or not. |

I cannot remember the last time that I have seen an ad or pop-up on this site. I can't remember the last time that I have seen a pop-up on any site....

| I use Maxthon and IE 7 beta with all the blockers enabled and not only see no pop ups but also see hardly any on page ads. Maybe Techlarry needs to upgrade his tech. |

I opened up this site like I have done once or twice a day, every day, for many years. I clicked on the link to see these comments, and received 2 'pops' from IE, plus a popup window. A number of people have told me that FF gets rid of all those popups, so I installed it, opened FF, and clicked on the same link. I got 3 popups, Netflix, University of Phoenix, and something about emoticons. So that is not a better solution.
I will check back in a month to see if ActiveWin fixes their problem. But until then there are many other web sites that I would prefer to visit, ones that do not give popups. Even though I never bought anything from one of the ads, I would click on banners every few visits to make sure that AW got some support, but if they are not willing to be a good net citizen, then I am not willing to visit any longer. |

It's not spyware..
This site has been for the last year hounded with popup ads. I counter 95% of them with Popupstopper + firefox. I have to say FF does usually bock most of them but PS gets the rest. Even then from time to time one gets through. It's annoying as hell and I used to check this site first for this kinda news but now I check here last. It's annoying but I'll continue to deal with it. |

TechLarry runs a MAC most of the time - so much of our suggestions will be irrelevant.
"TL, I am assuming this based upon your posts - if this is so, may I suggest, Mozilla Suite for MAC OSX, http://www.mozilla.org/products/mozilla1.x/ It has a very effective pop-up blocker that will help - if not, please excuse the suggestions." I do allow pop-ups from Activewin - and click through, too. They need resources to keep the site up and just taking from them without offering anything back just seems wrong... May seem silly, but makes sense to me. |

lketchum, I understand that you support this site by clicking on the one of the ads or the pop-ups but I was talking about pop-ups keep popping up all the time. This drives people nuts. Or you can kill the ads or pop-ups with the software and you can donate money to ActiveWin to support this site via Paypal as you see the button at the left. No problem.

I have THREE blockers running. I have IE SP2 set to block from certain sites as well.
Yet these annoying tribalfusion and fastclick ad's get through. The point is the posting levels here at ActivePopup.com are way down from a year ago and it's not hard to see why. TL |

You are quite incorrect. While I do have an iMac, it hasn't even been turned on in 6 months. I actively use my self-built PC's, three ThinkPad Laptops, and my self-built server running Server 2003. I do like Mac's but my work load does not present me with much time to dabble with it. TL |

#10, Oh my... I haven't seen anything like that at all.
I come on the site and allow temporarily, and click through a few. Heck, I offered to host the entire site on a dedicated box in our center for free. TL, I knew it... you always offered a perspective that suggested you had experience with OS X. We've supported it for clients for a long time [OS 8 and on], and about every *nix distro there is. While I don't like any of them at all, I do appreciate any one who at least runs them before commenting about them. Presently, a group of us are moving to Solaris, because the candy coating on Vista just isn't for us - not that one might not be able to take it off to some degree, I just can't agree with the direction that coating suggests they are taking. I just don't want that much help - if you know what I mean. It just hides all of that butifumus code their devs kicked out way to much. |
