Microsoft is out of touch with reality. And no, I'm not talking about that crazy helicopter stunt. I'm talking about a down-to-earth reality check. Hello Microsoft? The world is not ready for Microsoft Office XP and Windows XP because in most companies, Windows 2000 hasn't even been deployed yet. It's presumptuous for Microsoft to assume that the majority of businesses and users are running the latest Microsoft Windows OS and Office. Similarly, it is an insult to expect that these businesses have the deep pockets to make such an upgrade. The XP strategy is too aggressive, and it will hurt businesses, manufacturers and retailers alike. For this discussion, let's focus on North America and assume that many businesses in the U.S., Canada and Mexico are running Microsoft Windows, Internet Explorer and Office. Anyone reading this article is painfully aware that in most work environments, the Windows network is lagging a minimum of two years behind that which Microsoft is evangelizing today.
