Talk about missing some obvious problems with the assertion that Microsoft is stuffing the ballot box.
Microsoft employs 40,000 people. What evidence does anybody have that Microsoft's leadership directed its employees to commit these acts? Is this not like saying if an American kills somebody, all Americans are killers? Is it not possible that a few of those 40,000 people have minds of their own, and wanted to promote what they or their company has worked on? That's not to say what they did was kosher, I'm just saying that people who think it was a company-wide plot, or a plot by Bill and his cronies to misinform, is plain silly. Chances are it was a few enthusiastic people acting completely on their own fruition. At any rate, the fact that Java was winning is quite enlightening. It shows that people are typically completely ignorant of the capabilities of .NET, because anybody who would choose to implement a web service on Java over .NET is probably insane. Either that, or they have some insane project managers / clients who insist on promoting cross-platform capabilities for server applications, which illustrates their insanity. :-) |

#9 Fair reporting? If it were factual, they would have had an independent third party verify the results and list them. If it were fair they would have shown the results (summarized by domain). If they were interested in anything but starting a flame war, they would have given us the data. If they were interested in factual, they wouldn't have done a web based poll.
Personally, I think it is dang funny. I know I've written scripts or email friends of mine to skew results of polls. ZDNet ranks pretty near the register with fair, factual, and quality reporting. Perhaps a little more subtle than the yellow journalism of the late 1800's / early 1900's, but not by much. |

#17 - you don't think it's a bit of a fallacy to say that all people who support Microsoft aren't capable of independent thought?
You say: "M$ screws something up or does something illegal, and they act if as if it’s someone else’s fault. It’s really interesting actually, they are in complete denial." If Microsoft does something illegal, I call them on it. I think they screwed up on the Java deal, for instance. I do not, however, assume Microsoft is guilty because a news site or program tells me so. I try to evalute arugments based not on 3rd party accounts, but on the evidence at hand. The fact is a huge amount of the stuff we read on "news" sites is baloney based either on misinformation or plain lies. I don't assume that, I check source and try to verify information. For example, during the court case under Jackson, I heard many claims ranging from Microsoft doctoring evidence to basically whining in court. I then read the transcripts - all of them - and discovered that these accusations were either based on faulty or misleading information. You say: "Anyway back to Microsofties, don't bother trying to understand them, they won't be happy until M$ has 100% control of every aspect of their lives." Really? Microsoft is a company, not a government. They produce products, some of which are very good. I buy the ones I like; I avoid the ones I don't. Microsoft doesn't "control" me in anyway, nor would I want them to. Could it be that "Microsofties" just want people to recognize the good things Microsoft has done for computing instead of constantly bashing them? You say: "They will also do their best to destroy and mock anyone who dares to compete with M$." Hmmm... Well, I admit I am guilty of mocking some of the competition. Specifically, I love mocking Linux zealots who view an OS as some kind of Holy Scripture to be evangelized. I think it's silly, so I make fun of them. I also make fun of them in retaliation since the majority of the Linux community consists of big "M$" bashing clubs, to use your own acronym. It seems like they basically believe that if it comes from MS, it's bad, otherwise it's good. Could be wrong... but sites like Slashdot seem to validate that view every day. You say: "It just does to show how irrational they are." Actually, irrational is when you make blanket statements which you can no more prove than you could prove that Santa is real. Irrational is when you take everything Slashdot says as being true without any desire to verify its validity. You say: "If you have read this and see a little of what I'm talking about then your like me a rational person who uses MS products(I really like XP), but realizes that neither they nor anyone else are perfect." Ok. I've never met a person who has insisted that all MS products are perfect, nor have I ever suggested they are. Nonetheless, your statements made me angry, so I must be a "Microsoftie." I support Microsoft, but I think quite freely thank you. |

This sounds more like "ZDNet Publicity stunt". As if their polls are so scientific that no one has ever cheated on them.
As if Bill Gates gave the commandment on high to do this. It was probably a couple of contractors. Considering the source (ZDNet) I would be hesitant to trust anything they say. |

Troy Davis received like 5 million votes when we were done. :) The big scandal was in '96 when Team OS/2 stuffed the Product of the Year awards for OS/2 over NT 4.0. |

I personally think its awsome that they would ballot stuff the poll... Web polls mean nothing because you can do that. Everybody does it... hell I do it all the time with some scripts I've written.
