We have posted six screenshots of an interim Windows Vista Build 5268 that was given to selected OEMs. This build previews the new icon designs, IE 7 icon changes, smalls tart menu changes and some other minor details. Take a look, and remember December CTP is just around the corner. | ||

| The new icons in these screenshots look like an improvement to the Vista icons of recent builds. XP's icons are very energetic (perhaps too much so), but the recent Vista icons all looked very dull and boring. Realistic, yes, but boring. The new icons (e.g. file folder and hard drive icons in the picture explorer9jr.jpg) look a bit more lively. |

| I just wonder if (and kind of am hoping) this is similar to the Whistler betas--a lot of rather small changes prior to the unveiling of Luna. |

| Well, Windows Vista won't be feature complete until next year January or February, so there is still more to expect. Luna wasn't revealed until way after beta 2, about at build 24xx. I do hope there is more UI wise in Vista to expect. |

Is the a compain to change to folder icon out there??
I really hate it, and although one could probably change it after the fact, the idea of having to do this for the next five years untill Blackcomb really sucks! Please, change this icon -- it sucks way to much, and it is way to significant to drastically change like this! Over all, As long as i could drop the UI down to this I would be happy (barring the possibility that the new interface is truly better.) As for UI- I liked that Group Bar thing (even though what probably is the best part crashes on me) - just loose the start button on it, and keep QuickLaunch where it belongs. Combine that with the new little preview window that the new Task Bar has (make it part of the bar) and I like it! What I would like to see is the ability to make any window always on top. Also, a default opeing position would be great - set a default start position, and if the user later moves the window then closes it, the next time it opens it appears where you set it! THAT WOULD BE HUGE!! (and make the search box a Run box as well- it kind of does it, but i really want the real Run box - maybe Control Enter (hmm I should check to see if they did it already first) The ability to change the speed of all the animation stuff would be great - I will probably turn it off if it isnt quick and barley noticiable! |

| kevn: they don't have a "default" place for the opening position because you don't want to hid your other windows when working, so it kinda automatically categorizes your windows for you. |

Kevn - Window positioning is 100% under the control of the application. An app developer can choose to save the window's positioning when the user quits and restore it when the user reopens the app. Unfortunately most apps don't do this, they simply tell the OS, "give me any ol' position and size that you want."
And ActiveWin -- can you PLEASE do something about the "operation aborted" error when trying to go to the main activewin.com page? It took me over 20 tries before I actually got the page to open. I'm guessing it's not a problem with your servers but with the 3rd-party advertising... |
