#8 - Symbiotic. Without Microsoft helping them, Apple would be dead.

#1,
Microsoft never has and never will directly support Divx.
Not gonna happen. Never. No way.

Digiwiz,
Where on another planet do you get your information?
MS only purchased 100 million stock in Apple, and it was a political gesture. It meant NOTHING to Apple's bottom line. Apple had 3.2 Billion (with a B) in the bank, free and clear, when that took place.

Um, I think you are way off base #13. Software "belongs" anywhere it can run and where there is a market for it. If OS X is so great supporting non legacy devices, then on a PC it wouldn't use legacy devices. (Kind of like DVD drives not being supported by NT4 but in reverse). I use USB only with WinXP Pro and feel I have the same amazing digital lifestyle you talk about with OS X.
Regarding the iPod and iTunes and auto updating. Anyone who knows how to write code for a particular platform could do the same thing. It's a simple concept called data transfer.
As far as price vs quality of components goes, one might ask the question, why is apple's market share so far below Microsoft's/Intel's? Perhpas, Apple's products are too expensive for the masses. Perhaps I'd like to use a slightly lower quality computer that has a MUCH lower price tag than a slightly higher quality computer with a MUCH higher price tag. If you are going to try to tell me that Apple makes dramatically superior hardware, I'll just keep laughing.

#13 - Hmm, my keyboard/mouse is USB, so is my printer and scanner. Seems to work fine under Win2k/XP. I also don't buy low quality parts if I can help it. But if I want to, the option is there.
Oh, I have to do this... :)
Apple is guilty of destroying a market for Macintosh Firewire adapters. This market exists in the PC world, but cannot in the Mac world because of illegal bundling of this functionality into the Mac product Apple sells.
This artificially increases the cost/profit of the Macs sold by Apple since most people do not need a firewire port unless they have a digital video camera, ipod, etc.

Who said Apple was high quality? They have just as much failure rates on hardware that PC manufacturers do.
Have you ever looked inside a Macintosh? I'll let you know a little secret, they use pretty much the same parts as a PC (with the notable exception being the motherboard and processor). Past that its a PC with PC parts. The only think that they really do different to differentiate themselves as far as hardware goes is their packaging. Which is arguably of good quality and its real easy to get access to components inside one of their towers.
Here I think Dell cases and components win. Easier to get at everything and you almost don't need tools to work inside a dell anymore.
As for the new iMac all I can say is that it looks gay for lack of more descriptive language. It reminds me of the lamp in Pixar's logo. I don't like them and think they are a too pricey for what you are getting. If you are going to get a Mac get an iBook.
My two cents.

Soda smokes crack, again... "Apple is guilty of destroying a market for Macintosh Firewire adapters. This market exists in the PC world, but cannot in the Mac world because of illegal bundling of this functionality into the Mac product Apple sells.

Huh? I sent a friend to go buy a $50 SCSI to FireWire adaptor today at MacWorld. What kind of adaptor are you talking about? Don't need firewire for anything but iPod and DV... Well, I guess you have experienced FireWire so you don;t know the benefits it provides to all devices with large data transfers -- CDR, Hard Drives, etc... Apple is doing WHAT that is illegal? (Keep the crack away from soda!)
And about reverse engineering iPod; it's close, but a bunch of PC implimentations of 1394 do not support the ability to provide power through the computer connection so there will still be problems with PC users foolishly think that an iPod and software will do it for them.

With Microsoft's recent nomenclature, I would expect them to name it any random thing. What's the deal with Office v.X Mac Edition? Why not just office X instead of sounding like one of the most deadly nerve toxins out there... oh, on second thought
