Mail man sends Microsoft a message | |

Sabeer Bhatia, billionaire co-founder of Hotmail, thinks Google is smarter, quicker and hungrier than Microsoft, the company that in 1997 paid him and his partner Jack Smith $US400 million for the email invention that today has 50 million users worldwide. But Hotmail and Microsoft are now under severe challenge, Mr Bhatia said. "Microsoft isn't going away any time soon, but the role they will play in the future of software will not be the same as it has been in the past two decades," Mr Bhatia said. "Because Microsoft is so big and slower to move than companies such as Google and Yahoo, their dominance will be less. "Google is playing a brilliant game and expanding its activities. They have a fantastic revenue stream. They are leveraging their core strength, their enormous distribution, to successfully enter other areas." | ||

The problem is, Google and Yahoo are advertising driven. And I have to tell ya, people are just about fed up with advertising, especially on the Internet. TL |

Google Ads aren't too bad.
All the points the pluses that he applies to Google, though, apply to Microsoft even moreso. Fantastic revenue stream, leveraging thier core strength, and enormous distribution .... this is what Microsoft does, this is why they are constantly in court defending against people saying that Microsoft is leveraging their desktop and office software monopoly to enter other markets. He says the Microsoft moves slowly, simply because it is a big company. That is just not true. Their is a reason that every product group has a single head, who then reports to Bill. This allows them to move quickly in their respective markets. And then you have a guy like Bill who is in charge of all the software, and if he wants to get into a certain market, then they do. Microsoft is really set up very well for such a huge company. The guy is a bit daft, to be quite honest. |
