Microsoft bears some blame for worms | |

One-third of business users blame Microsoft for the recent worm outbreak, despite the company's security efforts, according to a poll. Thirty-five percent of respondents to an informal Web survey of customers by security company Sophos said the software maker was ultimately at fault for the recent rash of worms spawned by variants of Zotob. In the poll results, released on Thursday, 45 percent placed the blame squarely on the virus writers, while 20 percent laid blame on their systems administrators for not patching systems fast enough. | ||

| So MS is blameless then? Despite the fact that the OS is, what, 5-6 years old now? And has had upteen patches, service packs and security updates? There's lots of blame to go around, and MS most certainly deserves its share. |

About 9000 less than open source. Lets see ... Apple: 43 in one day for OS X Microsoft: 28 Patches For Windows in 2005 (2 for Exchange, 1 for ISA 2004, 2 for Messenger, 4 for Office) |

I'm sorry, but there is no one to blame but yourself if you get hit by Zotab. The patch has been out for some time.
Latch, so now you are blamming Microsoft simply because the OS was shipped with problems? The fact is, the patch has been available for a LONG time, it's not Microsoft's fault if your system is no patched. and like #5 said, at least 2000 still gets patches, and will contine to get security related patches for another 4.5 years, how many other OSes have support that lasts that long? NONE. |

| Latch: MS may not be entirely blameless. However, they have made a strong good faith effort to fix potential problems. If your car has a recall issue, you ignore it and later on have a problem, who is responsible? Is it the car company or the the lazy end user? |

NotParker... dont forget that aapl had to reissue that large mega patch because it broke some apps (mathematica). mac-ites - wasn't the big patch something like 18MB in size? I thought I read that somewhere. Can anyone confirm? |

| Yep, around 18MB -- broke 64-bit apps because they only included the 32-bit version of a system library. |

| Worms? Why not just eat some jalapeños with your food? It really does help prevent and get rid of worms... LOL |
