At Microsoft's annual gathering with university researchers, executives again bemoaned the lack of computer scientists, both globally and in the United States. Part of the problem, say both academics and Microsoft executives, is that the technology field just hasn't done a good job of positioning itself as hip and exciting. There needs to be more of a sense of romance and magic, says Kevin Schofield, general manager of Microsoft Research communications and strategy. | ||

Take the people stating there is currently a 3.7% unemployment rate in the Tech sector, and Bill gates who says there is a shortage, put them all in a room with locked doors and tell them they can't leave until they figure out which one of them is being so friggin' stupid. TL |

| There are over 100,000 fresh software engineer graduates that have unsullied minds and are capable of doing a great job. Yet, everyone wants "experience" to accomplish new tasks. This seems stupid as a fresh mind completes fresh tasks faster, and often better. Just show them where the keyboard and bathroom are, give them a set of specs and let them figure out how best to get teh job done. Bill Gates, hire some of these American kids please! |

| #3 Tech support and basic coding can be done anywhere. Company's need more and more onsite software engineers to perform day to day work and to tweak the outsourced basic code for real world business to function. Software engineering jobs in the USA increased by over 7% in the past year while all other IT jobs decreased. |

| #2 - Microsoft actively hires kids just out of college. In fact, last year they hired 950 people straight out of college. |

| Why go for CompSci when EE has mostly the same course-work, and is a much more valuble degree? |
