The main goal for tabs in our beta release is to make sure our implementation delivers on compatibility and security. The variety of IE configurations and add-ins across the Internet is tremendous. We want feedback on how it works with add-ins that you run (or have written), with the sites that you visit, and with the line of business applications, accessibility tools, management and development tools that you run. We’ve also looked closely at reported vulnerabilities in other implementations of tabbed browsing. We’re looking forward to feedback from the security community as well. The tabbed browsing experience in the upcoming IE7 beta is pretty basic. Expect additional end-user functionality to come in after the beta. | ||

Besides IE, FF is one of the LAST browsers to get tabs. Opera, Maxthon, Slim, Deepnet, MyIE2, Mozilla, etc., etc., etc. all had them before FF.

--AWBrian-- but none of the others have taken off like FF. Plus some of them are basically just skins for IE and are still considered IE. MS has not done anything to IE because they did not have any real threat to their browser monopoly but now FF comes along and starts making some in-roads so MS desides that they had better do something now before FF gets to far into the browser shares.

| I really do like tabs (especially the ability to bookmark all open tabs at once), but goodness gracious... some people are really getting bent out of shape over this. "tabs, Tabs, TABS!!" Man, calm down! Tabs are not the be-all, end-all; they are just little shortcut buttons to switching tasks within the window. Personally, I'd like to see something beyond tabs in Longhorn. The 3D capabilities and graphics architecture open up the UI to some potentially truly useful UI metaphors--something more elegant and powerful than tabs. |

I guess they added it as a native feature to sate those continually pointing out that they did not have it. I just hope that they make it very easy to turn off entirely.
I do suspect that LH will take both what we refer to as tabbed browsing and the task bar and use its UI to provide a much better experience for both....at angle looks into running tasks/pages, etc... #5 could not be more right here...a reality check is in serious order for many a FF fan. |
