I have been working on some video review tests for the site, this means we can give better demonstrations on how some of the hardware and software we review works. We have a couple of test files we would like your opinions on. We don't want you to complain about the dialogue as it was just a 30 second blabbering test I did - but please comment on the video quality of both feeds and if the Widescreen versions work ok for you. Settings for the recordings will get better if we go ahead with this. As mentioned, both feeds have been recorded in full 16:9 anamorphic widescreen, so should display well on widescreen monitors etc, but the video should also look good on plain monitors too. The low quality version is quite a difference in download size to the high quality one, but it may well be the one we will go with to save bandwidth. | Video is good quality but a little bit too dark; also there is a persistent glare caused by the camera light on the PDA screen. |

| Both look very similar full screen on my little 15" LCD monitor at work. I suggest using a stand when recording hand held devices to avoid video jitters, at least at the beginning of the recording. |

| Full tripod setup will be used in the future, its just a test to see if the quality of the picture is up to everyones standards here and if the site can take the bandwidth. |

You can cut some bandwidth from audio and possibly add that to the video bandwidth if you use the WMA Voice codec or a mono audio stream using the regular codec. You really only need the current audio bandwidth for good-quality, non-speech audio (music, etc.).
The text on the Pocket PC screen and the letters on the keyboard are a lot clearer on the higher bandwidth video. This post was edited by n4cer on Tuesday, April 05, 2005 at 17:26. |

Great idea and the video is great, too.
BTW, awesome phone - I have one and use OMA in E2K3 Server with through the air activesync. I didn't think it would be a good phone, but many customers wanted in instead of black berry, or Smart Phone. Turns out it is a great phone and the Bluetooth connection in the car is excellent. I hope you guys do this, because it is a great format and welcome change. |
