On Feb. 24, Microsoft Chief Technology Officer Craig Mundie sat in on a "big boys" conference call with the Federal Communications Commission. Others on the line were the chief executives of Time Warner Cable and Comcast and the chairman of the FCC. Three weeks later, the FCC made a major decision regarding cable set-top boxes that favored Microsoft and the cable companies — and rejected months of lobbying by Intel and others in the computer and electronics industry. | ||

Bizarre article.
It appears as though the article is talking about the do-not-copy bit which is supposed to be in digital TV to prevent it from being recorded. But it's unclear. Microsoft has apparently sided with content producers? Yet the article says they're trying to please consumers. I think the do-not-copy bit is anti-competitive. It's another example of Government regulation being used by business as a barrier to entry into the market. |

Competitive distribution outlets. We go back to the VCR... hollywood was against it because it might be used to copy stuff. Now, video sales and rentals make up most of their income.
The industry needs to adapt and change, abandon old business models and look towards the future. |
