Today at the annual Game Developers Conference (GDC), Microsoft Corp. announced the first details of its next-generation Xbox® video game system platform, highlighting how hardware, software and services are being fused to power enhanced game and entertainment experiences. Microsoft Corporate Vice President and Chief XNA (TM) Architect J Allard further outlined the company's vision for the future of entertainment, citing the emergence of an "HD Era" in video games that is fueled by consumer demand for experiences that are always connected, always personalized and always in high-definition. | ||

| Funny how it introduces the "HD" era, but it doesn't actually have a HD DVD drive... Maybe not a big deal today, but in a few years it will be... Plus PS3 is gonna have a blu-ray drive... |

No, Parker, it does not exist today. This is an article about a speech. It is not a box. "Sure, someday one of several competing formats will exist on larger discs like blu-ray. But that day isn't now. " As is true with XBox Next. Duh. |

| I agree about the lack of a HD/BR DVD drive--it seems like a major oversight, although I'm guessing it probably has to do with keeping console cost down. But I would think a bigger concern would be to make sure that they don't come up short hardware-wise against the PS3. Hardware, after all, is one of the biggest reasons that the XBox gained its popularity in the first place. |
