Problems With the Firefox Development Process | |

Mike Connor, one of the core Firefox developers, is raising a flag concerning the Mozilla Firefox methodology of development. From his blog: "In nearly three years, we haven't built up a community of hackers around Firefox, for a myriad of reasons, and now I think were in trouble. Of the six people who can actually review in Firefox, four are AWOL, and one doesn't do a lot of reviews." In an earlier entry, he raised concrete concerns about the community involvement. | He's complaining about Code Review. It's more of a symptom of the fact that code reviews are boring and nobody is oging to volunteer to do them. New features, sure... documentation, code reviews and other boring things... forget it. |

As I said when FF came on the scene - the developers, amazingly talented people, deserved to be highly praised....and that they quickly move on to other initiatives of various types - they'd mature even more as developers and move onto other challenges. May be they have, and may be they have not, entirely, but it is/was a matter of time.
*IE's recent news is not about, or because of FF - it is the back-porting to some extent of even more sophisticated protections. I bet all at MS are sick of seeing their SW exploited over and over and think about it...Trustworthy computing as a policy was announced in Jan 2000! - long before most of the blended threats noted existed as they do now. It suggests and strongly, that MS was and is serious about security and from what has been released, it supports that it has been for a long while. |
