Apple cringes at Microsoft school deal | |

Apple Computer on Tuesday joined a chorus of critics attacking a proposed settlement that would let Microsoft give schools up to $1 billion in free software, training and services. Lawyers representing the Redmond, Wash.-based company and the consolidated private antitrust cases defended the agreement before U.S. District Judge J. Frederick Motz during a daylong hearing at the U.S. District Court for the District of Maryland in Baltimore. | ||

#14 Do yourself and favor and get another Vid Card and Monitor. Hell I have three going (Programing Enviroment, Browser, Graphics) and soon to have 4(Programming Enviroment, Browser, Graphics, <other>). Personally I use Macs and PC's (PC Mainly) and I find the user interface to OS 9.1 and lower to be so damn cumbersome I could cry. OS X is cool but I'm sick of all the frosting the put on that OS. I'm so sick of "swoosh" sounds and windows flying everywhere that I could throw it out the window (i did by going back to OS9.1). It seems the Idea of Making the Computer look cool wasn't enough they had to bring that mentallity into the OS.
Lets face it PC people hate Macs and Mac people are jealous of PC people for having all the software. P.S. Ever tried to get help from an ISP on setting up Dial-Up connections on a MAC? Ever tried to use just the keyboard in a MAC? |

| I think you, as well as many others are confused as to what this settlement is for. Since MS was ruled as being a monopoly, MS has had many lawsuits put up against them from assholes that have the mentality of "sue whenever I can, even when it's because of my own stupidty" saying that MS has alledgedly overcharged them for software. That is what this settlement is for, not the anti-trust suit. |

#35, the difference is, ALL that stuff in XP can be turned off, AND you can even customize the look with your own skin, weather it's a StylesXP based skin which uses MS' own format, or Windowblinds, it can be done, and done well.
You claim that the Mac interface is superior, but it is in fact FAR from it. OSX does improve a lot to what was available on MacOS in previous versions, however, it still needs work in a few areas. Windows still has a much better interface as far as getting things done, and learning how to get them down quickly. Application crashes generally isn't the OS's fault, it's the fault of the programmer who wrote the part of the code that crashed it. Apple did not create IEEE1394, which is the spec that Apples has given the name Firewire, nor were they the first to the market with it, they were just the first ones to mass market it (mainly because they generally controll their industry, and what they say goes, ESPECIALLY since they make their own hardware). To say that Apple was the first to use 802.11b is just outrageous, sure, they may have been ONE of the first to market towards the consumer, but definatly NOT the first. Apple was also nowhere near first offering wide-screen LCD, they were, in fact, one of the latest. The reason why Apple is able to incorporate all these pieces of technology into their product lines faster is because they control their hardware, they make the motherboard, they make the accessories, they are the only ones that sell the product, as such, it's so much easier for them to move to new technologies... but other manufacturers certainly do not copy them, it's just a lot harder for them to move their product lines over. Finally, what does MS have to do with 5 1/4" floppy disks? Nothing, MS is not in the hardware business (for the most part, they are just starting to get into it except for their mice, keyboards, and joysticks). |
