Microsoft to Preview Another Piece of 'Longhorn' | |

Microsoft will deliver in March an early developer release of two of the three key pillars of its next major version of Windows, code-named Longhorn. The so-called "Community Technology Preview" (CTP) WinFX release will be made available to developers next month, said Eric Rudder, Microsoft's senior vice president of servers and tools. Rudder made the announcement at the VSLive conference here during his Tuesday morning keynote. | ||

Ummm no.
CTP is just to give developers a taste of what these technologies will be. You don't need feedback from the community before a beta... that's what the entire beta stage is for. |

| Mr. Dee, at the same confrence, it was said that Longhorn beta 1 will be released in June. I think it was Mr. Rudder who said so but I'm not sure. |

| Yeah, but this isn't a true beta for the so called pillars, it is just a chance to let developers start playing around with it. You're right in that they are critical pieces but if they're going to release it to the general public instead of doing a private beta, it goes to show that they are pretty far along in development. Knowing Microsoft, I wouldn't be all that surprised if things got pushed back but the plan is for Beta 1 this summer(June), Beta 2 in late fall (Nov/Dec) and RTM in May or so of next year. |
