Open-source software urged for poor nations | |

Activists at the World Social Forum, where Microsoft is viewed as a corporate bogeyman, urged developing nations yesterday to leap into the information age with free, open-source software. John Barlow, a lyricist for the Grateful Dead, told a gathering that poor nations can't solve their problems unless they stop paying expensive software-licensing fees. Open-source software includes programs that are not controlled by a single company. The software can be developed by anyone, with few restrictions. The best known such software is Linux, which can be downloaded free from the Internet. | ||

| John Barlow a "lyricist" now that's a good one (the Grateful Dead have been living off their hippie image and one 60's hit for decades)! In 1990 he and Mitchell Kapor founded the Electronic Frontier Foundation. He currently serves as its Vice Chairman. The rest of the article is as full of BS as that line! John is another socialist who has got his and to hell with the rest of us. |

Now SCO is going to win. When did this happen? Having IBM release all versions of AIX and Dynix isn't really telling of the case.
Looking around, I notice that SCO is now fighting the reverse position they previously held and are arguing to not release all versions of their codebase in answer to IBMs countersuit. I'm looking forward to what idiotic notions their council puts forth as to why IBM must release of of it's code but SCO doesn't need to. |

Looking at SCO's stock reminds me of looking at REAL's stock. Both companies have a similar claim... that they were ripped off in some way. Yet, you fanboys love REAL and hate SCO.

And why did they earn it? Because they have a better solution and because people who purchase these products do their research beyond the front page of /. You fellas wouldn't know a technology plan if it hit you in the face, yet you pretend within this site and others to be some sort of expert. You have NO budget under you. You have NO team under you. You just have your pre-defined notion of how things SHOULD be, ACCORDING TO YOU. You form these ideas without a clue of how an economy works (google "supply demand" sometime), and without even a basic understanding of what it takes to support a technology-oriented business. Piss off. |

Similar yet not identical claims, perhaps you don't understand that. Most people have the same opinion about Real and SCO, and it's not a positive one! What you fanboys have trouble understanding is that "criticising Microsoft for their bundling" DOES NOT MEAN "we love Real, poor poor Real!". "google "supply demand" sometime" Don't you mean MSN Search "supply demand" fanboy? |
