Microsoft lays off 62 testers | |

Microsoft is laying off 62 test engineers in the second round of cuts hitting Windows testers in the past five months. The company has recently sent test work overseas, but a spokeswoman denied that's a factor. She said automation, not globalization, led to the cuts. Microsoft notified the employees Tuesday and Wednesday last week, and the layoffs took effect Friday. The testers were given the option of staying, with pay, for six weeks while they look for other jobs in the company. | ||

fast_math: how do you figure that one? Also, developers ARE consumers as well, kind of making your point moot in and of itself.
However, Microsoft does have a wish website, they also take into account things that external beta testers suggest, etc... What makes you think that they don't listen to customers? |

OE isn't integrated, just bundled, IE is a whole other thing. If IE was not integrated, you would be downgraded to a Win95 style interface (try it, get XPLite), and it also adds quite a bit of function. I'll guarentee you if you were to take any joe user, have him use Windows as is today, and then remove IE and have him use it, he would hate not having IE integrated.
It doesn't matter if you want WPA or not, it is a copy protection, nobody ever wants copy protection. But hey, if people weren't sharing their Windows CD's with other people, or installing Windows on more than one computer with only one license, we would not have this. Also, WPA really does not get in the way. Even if you did steal your copy of XP, all you have to do is call up and say that you got rid of your old PC and got a new one and they will activate it for you. So what if you have to call? Is it really that hard? Are you really that lazy? It's very quick and easy, probably easier than trying to read the font used for the CD-Key (is it an 8, or a B? is it an 0 or an O? type of thing). So, none of that is really a valid argument that shows that MS does not listen to customers. |

While I don't buy their line about the layoffs and the reasons, it's pretty hard to argue with their layoff process. That's pretty admirable.
