Opera Software released a test version of a major update to its Web browser software Thursday, intensifying its efforts, along with open-source rival Firefox, to cut into Microsoft's market share. The new, as-yet-unnamed software adds stronger support for RSS (Really Simple Syndication)--a technology widely used for automatic access to blogs and other material--and technology that allows users to navigate through voice commands and have Web pages read to them. | ||

"navigate through voice commands"
It would be interesting to find out how many users have actually asked to have this ability. Whilst it's "cool" to see people in movies talk to their pc's, I've never felt the need to tell my browser to "go back" or "scroll down". It'll be interesting to see how advanced it is, e.g. can you say "Open ActiveWin", or will you need to spell out the full url? I think this sort of technology will really become popular once you can say things like "Show me all the new stories and older stories with new comments from ActiveWin". |
