I personally saw this car when I was in Seattle last week, very cool. "This is a different kind of video. It's not of someone talking about a Microsoft product. It's about a Microsoft employee's hobby. We think you'll find his hobby to be pretty darn interesting, though. He tore apart his car, put Windows XP, WiFi, GPS, and other things, into his car, and put it all back together. While we featured only one guy's car, J.P. Stewart, he's actually started a "carPC club" on campus and he knows a few dozen people who are working on similar customization projects." | ||

Headlines: "Open sore is eating into Microsoft PC car inititative - Redmond on Ropes!" There's your headline prep, Tech Media, have at it! lol |

| #8 What kind of fantasy world do you live in where you think that this was first done commercially as oppose to open source? Hate to break it to you, hate to alarm you, but people have been putting computers into their cars for a long time, they've also been putting in touch screens and whatever else they could. This is *not* new, all this shows is that there is now a bigger market for joe average to put a pc into their car. Windows/Linux/etc have been used by hobbists in their cars for years. It's the Microsoft zealots like yourself that believe that nothing has been done unless it has been done by Microsoft. |

#9 - Gee, Chris, another blinding flash of the obvious. Nevertheless, my statements stand. You haven't heard much from the faithful open sore Tech Media about the "distros" in cars, but you will now that Windows appears to be adopted in a sort of major way in cars. I was just giving them a little help in their headline prep - I would have thought you would be grateful <snicker>.

Which particular statement of yours stands? The factually false one about OSS copying Microsoft when it comes to car PC's? You didn't really make any other statements. Which is why I pointed out that the majority of these sorts of things are done by hobbists long before any commercial company decides to jump on board. And when it comes to being first, Microsoft have little to no record of ever coming up with something first. Not that it's necessarily a bad thing. Holding back until the market has been ready and then pouncing with the marketing department has done very well for Microsoft. Take a look at Longhorn for instance. The OS is only an alpha and yet there's weekly or bi-weekly news stories or leaks about it. Linux (and other *nixes) have been crammed into any and every device possible (e.g. xbox), including car pc's. People like yourself always ask why in the world do these people do that? The obvious answer is that it's a hobby to them. Then when Microsoft is involved in any way shape or form, people like yourself start praising it as the second coming of the lord, such brilliant innovation which the "open sore crowd" will naturally take and copy instantly! "Talk about zealots - why are you here again?" Perhaps you meant "Speaking of zealots...". I'm here to comment on stories, and I just can't help commenting on MS zealots' comments - you know the kind, the ones that think something can only be good if it comes from Microsoft. If you're still having trouble, take a look in the mirror. |
